To be creative with needlework and to create embroidery works is the fuel of my life. I can’t imagine a day without doing at least a few stitches. But to say that it is easy and just a matter of knowledge and talent will mean to lie.
For those who choose to be an artist and make a living of hand crafting sometimes is quite difficult to fulfill an order. Of course, I am not talking about any work that follows a pattern; I talk about that part of our work that starts from scratch. I’m talking about projects where it is essential to catch the spirit and the vision of the client and thread it into the final product.
Like any artist, we, the needlework designers, also need an inspiration, a muse, since sometimes just knowledge is not enough.
I am sharing with you this because recently I had finished one of those special custom orders where the crucial part was to implement the personality of the client in it. Many challenges to meet: specific closures and seams, pockets and key holders were only part of the “receipt”. The part that brought this order to the next level was the embroidery.
Silk shading embroidery, like any other needlework is performed with a model/pattern or at least a direction of the stitching. Everything that goes beyond the usual forms belongs to the Design creation. This is the time and place where the need of inspiration comes. Without an inspiration it is almost impossible to get an idea barely sketched on a paper and embroider it magically on a fabric.
Fortunately, the girl I was painting with thread for is an example of an inspiration herself. This young woman is extremely talented knitter and friend in the same time.
Thank you Julie, for the confidence in my abilities!
I am currently preparing my next blog posts for the steps necessary to create your own designs, but I could not wait to share the joy of my latest creation.
I hope you like it!
