My Project Bag

Since I am working on so many project bags for friends and customers, I decided to share some steps in working on my own project bag.

Every time when I went to our craft meetings or just went to enjoy some time in a park, I would bring different projects in different bags – plastic or fabric. After going back home I had to deal with so many bags all over my place that it was hard to keep track on the works I’ve done.

So finally I have decided that it is the time for me to make one bag for my work.

Most of the bags I did so far were for people who love knitting and crocheting, so their inside parts were suited for yarn and knitting needles. I needed a bag that will suit my work and my embroidery tools.

I had to combine the two of my favorite passions – embroidery and sewing, and I started with the embroidery part.

I love the Silk Shading technique and I find that it works perfectly on the floral designs. I used a green fabric – one of my favorite colors, and since the lining I had has base color grey, I choose grey shading for the design.

Here are some steps in the embroidery part.

When the embroidery was completed I start working on the bag design. I didn’t have any clear idea in my head what should the bag look like, so I was experimenting on the spot during the sewing part.

One thing I have to consider was how to hold my embroidery scissors – as they are small and very pointed I was worried that if I put it just like that in any pocket it will penetrate and destroy the fabric eventually.

That is how I come up with the idea for shaped small pocket for the scissors so that the pointed part to stay put and secure.

Apart from the regular pockets on the two internal sides of the bag, I also added a small zipper pocket that can hold small needle and beads boxes or just anything else. I don’t have it in a good picture, but it is in a middle of the bag without reaching the bottom.

My bag holders I made open, so I can adjust the length of the holding if needed.

I am very satisfied with the final result as now I have one bag that holds several projects and I am able to find easily all I need.
